While preparing for a ‘job application materials’ lecture for my ENGL 3003- Writing for the Professions class at the University of Tulsa, I found this very cool site called Visualize.me.

It converts your resume information via your LinkedIN profile to an amazing infographic resume! I love that it’s customizable- from number of categories to color choices.

Here’s Mine!

Fall 2011

I have accepted a new job, as of Sept 20th, 2011 with new media company This Land Press, as their Social Media Editor.

You can find me manning the Twitter and Facebook accounts, writing engaging web copy and generally being awesome.

I will continue to enteratain freelance offers and pursue opportunities that are a good fit; I will also continue to maintain this portfolio as a teaching tool (hi, ENGL 3003!).

Summer brings a time for me to update both my work history and teaching curriculum vitae!

In addition, due to the request of a former employer, I had had to remove a few work samples under ‘grant writing’. However, I continue to be happy to dialogue with interested parties about consulting for grant-writing or other technical writing projects!

Speaking of consulting, I am pleased to announce that I have added another corporate client to my roster. I am pleased to be working with local, Tulsa-based business HiCorp, Inc. on their social media development and client relationship development initiatives. Viva la technology!

Updates

There are new additions under Community Service- I joined the Board of Directors of the Day Center for the Homeless in Tulsa in January, as a TYPros Intern. TYPros is one of the country’s largest Young Professionals organizations, which encourage community involvement and volunteerism. I’m proud to be a representing the youth of the city in the nonprofit world.

Also, I have additional work experience, as my consulting gig with the YWCA is completed (and very successful) and I did some work for a local creative design studio, Organi Studios, this spring.

Back in December, I had the privilege of doing some social media consulting for the local branch of the Girl Scouts. I have to say, of all the nonprofits that I’ve worked for in Tulsa, they are the ones that have their act together the most, especially when it comes to utilizing available resources. Not only do they have an agency Facebook page, but they use it and engage their varied audiences on it, but they also use Twitter effectively to inform followers about events and announcements! Good stuff.

I’m excited about my next consulting gig, with YWCA Tulsa, on some curriculum for their Immigrant & Refugee Programs! I love doing work that matters.

If you are with a non-profit in the Tulsa/OKC area and would like some feedback on your social media efforts or need a writer for blog content, curriculum, or grant applications, I’m your girl! Send me an email at vickimae@gmail.com and we’ll chat!

Edited for stupid cut and paste errors.

So, as of the end of September, I’m back on the job market!

The Director of Development and Communications positions that I took with A New Leaf, Inc. in July in Tulsa was not a good fit and we have parted ways.  I am extremely glad for the opportunity to work there, and am looking forward to my next opportunity.

Currently, I am taking the time to fully explore my options, and consider whether or not non-profits is where I should focus my time and talent. I am interested in pursuing options in the fields of marketing, communications and sales. I am also investigating getting my teaching license and returning to the classroom.

Please feel free to contact me with gigs, reading recommendations or job offers!

Update

Greetings voyagers!

Just a quick announcement to say that as of 7/5/10, I am officially off the job market, for the time being. I have accepted the Director of Development and Communications at A New Leaf, Inc., a non-profit in Broken Arrow, OK.

I am available for limited consultation work in the fields of editing, social media and of course non-profit development.

Thank you for checking out my portfolio website!

Yesterday morning, I got the most fantastic ‘shot-in-the-arm’ for my job search from one, Alexandra Franzen (of the quirky blog Unicorns for Socialism), who I met through Twitter, incidentally. She claims to “…design rockstar resumes, lead personal branding jam sessions, write marketing copy for individuals and corporations, and teach wallflowers how to hustle like a gangsta’. And boy does she!  Long story short, she held a free portfolio Twitter contest, and although I didn’t win the grand prize, I DID win an hour-long consultation with her at whatever price I could pay- sweet!

I took a bunch of notes and plan on implementing her critiques around the site (fewer drop downs, more personalization) and on my actual paper resume (logo, more details, customization, personalization- sense a theme?).

So, I highly recommend Alexandra and if hope that you, dear reader of this post, will check her out, and check out the changes that I make (new resume already posted!)- let me know what you think!

Updates

Just a programming note: the Resume section has been updated. Although most of my Work History can be found under the “About” section of the same name (Work History), if one wishes to view and/or print a copy of either of my resumes, they can be found under About –> Resumes. Both my skill-based and ‘regular’ reverse chronological resume can be found there. Please notify me if there are any difficulties downloading or accessing the documents. They are PDFs, so you must have a “reader” application of some sort to access them (click here to download a free version of Adobe Reader if don’t have a reader program). I found that uploading a regular Word document left the formatting slightly wonky, and since half of the impact of a resume is how clean and orderly it is, I decided to just convert the silly things to PDFs so nothing could move around. Enjoy!

Welcome to my job search web site! Whether you’ve found your way here through a personal invitation, a referral or happenstance, welcome. Take a look around. I’ve tried to make my site as comprehensive as possible.

You will find work samples from my time in the non-profit sector (I spent 2 years as a grant writer/researcher for a leading domestic violence and sexual assualt agency in Tulsa, OK), as well as many writing samples from my academic life. I have both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in English, so as you can imagine, I have a lot of papers to put up for your perusal. There’s also quite a bit of teaching material under the “Teaching Portfolio” as I have 4.5 years of Composition teaching, across public university, private university and community college teaching settings. New content is still being added (so much material to sort through!)

I hope you’ll take time to follow me on Twitter

I also welcome new contacts on LinkedIN

Lastly, if you would like to follow my high-jinks in and around Tulsa, feel free to pop over to my ‘just for fun’ blog: Queen of Small Adventures.
